The air was crisp and cool. Harry was trying to pretend that he didn't exist, but it was difficult when just 3 days ago they were about to go all the way. Harry breathed deeply before turning on the balcony towards Cedric. Cedric was reading a book but Harry knew Cedric well enough that he could tell that the 7th year wasn't retaining anything he read. "Are we just going to pretend that the other doesn't exist?" Harry questioned. Cedric looked up and something gleamed in his eyes. Want? Lust? Love? "I don't know." Of course. Cedric was exceptionally bright and knew every answer to anything, but he could never sort out his feelings. Weird trait of a Hufflepuff. "I didn't put my name in that wretched cup. I begged, Cedric, I begged to be allowed to get out of it." Harry's voice was breaking from tears glimmering in his eyes. Cedric's eyes softened and he looked at Harry longingly, like he wanted to bring the 4th year into his arms and hold him. "I don't ask to be the target of a crazy person." Harry whispered. Cedric's dam broke. Cedric grabbed Harry and pinned him against the wall, kissing his deeply. Harry didn't think. He just returned the kiss as deeply as he could. The air was crisp and cool. But with Harry and Cedric holding each other, kissing and touching each other, it seemed like warmth.

What if, during the ritual at the end of the Triwizard Tournament when Voldemort returns, instead he becomes 14 year old Tom Riddle? What if Death decided that the Heir of Slytherin and the Heir of Gryffindor needed a bloody break from the old coots manipulation?
