He fought in Visari's palace and witnessed the death of Colonel Radec. He manages to get on an ISA cruiser and almost escaped. But a MAWLER crippled his ship and James escaped on an intruder with a few other people and joined up with Sgt. Rico Velasquez. He helps with he the rescue of Sevchenko and fights through the ice parts of Helghan in a desperate effort for survival, and to free Captain Narville.

When he noticed he doesn't recognize two people met with kashiro man Ironwood and ozpin asked him handover his technology he refused to handover Ironwood and ozpin order Atlas soldiers and huntmen and huntress hunt him down or kill him.
