" The museum building was large and elegant. It jutted out of the ground like some grand hindrance in a hero's journey. The pillars loomed large and white against the background of dark clouds and the wide marble steps spread intimidatingly up into the building like the tongue of a hungry predator. It was all together haughty and self-assured that once I entered the immaculate doors that I might not ever leave."

Marcella, a girl eager to escape from her mother's grasp and the imprisonment of her hometown seeks a college far enough away but still allows her to stay in touch with her life long friend and mentor. Hampden college in Hampden Vermont. She discovers at this college they have a greek class she's keen on joining. Was it fate? The more you know, the more you realize you don't know. -Aristotle · · ────── ·𖥸· ────── · · This is a story based off of Donna Tartt's 'The Secret History, I am fully aware these characters do not belong to me besides ones not originally in the book. This is in no way serious and just a silly thing i like to do sometimes and it probably sucks LOL! (also I have no idea if I want Marcella to have a set love interest, I am seeing how it plays out 🤫🤫)

With a hole in the roof and a teacher out of town, Richard has to get saved by dear old Henry for winter break- Same as how the story goes. However, things go a bit differently than expected when going home with Henry. - Although a bit for shipping, this is mostly to just build upon their character dynamic in general! I really loved that The Secret History wasn't really about romance, so don't expect anything overly mushy! Although, it's in character, it is a cannon divergent retelling which starts after Henry saves Richard from being a frozen popsicle

Indeed, indeed, I cannot tell, Though I ponder on it well, Which were easier to state, All my love or all my hate. Surely, surely, thou wilt trust me When I say thou dost disgust me. O, I hate thee with a hate That would fain annihilate; Yet sometimes against my will, My dear friend, I love thee still. It were treason to our love, And a sin to God above, One iota to abate Of a pure impartial hate. ~ Henry David Thoreau ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

"he looked at her like he just realised what love is" As a student of Hampton College, it's easy to feel isolated, cut off from the rest of the world. This is only one of the reasons Henry Winter loves it. Ever since he's been able to form memories, Henry has felt... numb, in a way. The world around him has always appeared uneventful and dull. The one thing he finds a sort of comfort in is burying his head in studies of the ancient. Now, in his second year of college, he's planning to do just that. But suddenly, something shifts when he meets Odette, a young literature student with her heart on her cheek. Henry has never before been much interested in romance. Not that he was particularly against it, only that he had never met anyone who interested him enough for him to actually consider it and he didn't expect to. That's why he gets profusely confused when he can't seem to stay away from this seemingly ordinary, uncomplicated girl. Still, he feels like he's been throw into a play and given the role the lovestruck hero. And things don't often go well for love eyed boys in stories. Especially not when your story is a tragedy. Still, he cannot stop himself. Her touch is addictive, her kiss intoxicating, and now that he's felt her attention on him, he doesn't know how he'll ever survive without it. All characters except Odette are owned and created by the queen of literature, Donna Tartt. This story takes place the year before The Secret History and will later move onto the plot of the book with changes to fit the main character and her story. For anyone actually reading this, I am so sorry because I am in the habit of going back and editing, which could absolutely make it confusing. For anyone who's reading this years later, it will be so much better because of it.

Henry Winter was supposed to be dead. But the bullet missed its mark. Instead of dying, Henry vanished-disappearing into the shadows of Europe, a ghost among ruins and forgotten libraries. Now, years later, he lives in exile, haunted by memories of a past he can never escape, trapped between survival and oblivion. This is the story of a man who chose to live in silence - where love, guilt, and myth blur into one.

Henry Winter had almost been slightly empty throughout his life. That was until he met a girl almost equally as empty - or missing something. He just didn't know he would fall thoroughly, irreversibly in love with her. [This story will contain topics of suicide, self harm, eating disorders, grooming, murder, rape and domestic abuse. If any of these topics make you uncomfortable please don't read. Also all characters except Margots family and James, and most story points are Donna Tartt's.]
