This is a canon divergent story that takes place directly after the first Re-Animator. Nothing that is revealed in later movies is canonical here unless directly stated. Spoilers warning Its been three months since Herbert West's death in the Miskatonic Massacre and Dan is plagued by the uncertainty of whether or not he did all he could have. Eventually, his guilt leads him back to the hospital where it all happened and he makes a shocking discovery that gives him new hope.
