Smallkit has always had a mostly carefree and amazing life, growing up with a somewhat strict but loving mother, a strong and kind father, and three fun -but sometimes annoying- older brothers. But there's one thing that's always made her special. Not a prophecy, or some great destiny written in the stars. No. Smallkit has always been the, well, the *smallest* of her siblings. The runt, as it were. Her legs and body are simply, smaller and shorter than average, and she's always been...okay with that. But the time has come for Smallkit to grow up, and she doesn't know how to do that... The time has come for Smallkit -and her "older by two minutes" brother, Coalkit- to become apprentices! Unprepared for the expectations that seem to come out of nowhere as she gets older and older, and the weight of the responsibilities that she finds now being thrust upon her by her mother and older brothers, all of a sudden, Smallkit's life has been turned upside down! Between bigger and bigger problems slowly arising within her family, fights with her brother becoming more and more frequent, and the new responsibilities and expectations that come with being an apprentice *and* growing up at the same time, Smallpaw finds herself on a rollercoaster of emotions, and doesn't quite know how to feel about everything she's all of a sudden expected to be. <-<-<+>->-> Join me, Smallfire, for an ultimately lighthearted but emotional tale about the challenges of training to be a good person, warrior, and someone your family will be proud of. Follow my story as we take a look into the mind and life of an often emotionally troubled young cat(aka me), and how hard it can be to deal with emotions, family, expectations, responsibility, and life. In a story with ups and downs, sad and silly, a bully (who might have a lot more to him than meets the eye), a hypocritical and often hard to deal with mother, and a young girl simply trying to figure out what life really is and how it works.

Sootpaw dreams of becoming leader one day. In fact, it's practically all she thinks about. Sootpaw found herself alone at a very young age, and never really got the whole "friends" thing, instead, Sootpaw has devoted most of her time to her training, and rather than making connections of any kind, has spent day after day hunting and practicing and honing her battle and prey-stalking skills. That is, until one day, Sootpaw realizes that if she ever hopes to be leader, she needs to start making connections, and getting to actually *know* the clanmates she hopes to lead one day. So, Sootpaw decides to try to start making friends, even though she's never been too good at understanding things like feelings, and especially not those of other cats. But then, Sootpaw finds herself caught up in an arrangement that changes things for her, and makes sure the rest of her apprenticeship doesn't quite go how she'd planned... *Especially* not the part where she finds quite strange-feeling feelings starting to form for her own brand new (and extremely *un*-official) apprentice.
