This poem features a story. The italics is the poet from one year ago and the bold is from the same poet but one year later. It refers to how the poet viewed a relationship in the past and in the present. In the past, she felt uncertain and unsure as to whether she should continue a relationship or not when she and someone reconciled. Later, after conflicts, she wondered if she had made the right decision and wondered if it'd have been best if they never talked after the reconciliation. So that it would've ended in a better way.
Overall, this poem captures themes of uncertainty and hesitation in relationships, and how relationships might change through the years.
The line "Words you've kept for me, I'll cherish everlasting" means that the person the poet is talking about, their words of reconciliation has not faded. It will remain, always. Even though situations change. And the line "Words I've kept for you, I cherish everlasting" refers to the poet's words to that person. That no matter what happens, the poet, as promised, will always be there when needed.
