John Egbert is 16 years old and is going to a different school because he just moved, he's so excited to meet new people. He thinks he won't make any friends but then on his first day, he meets tons of people. He makes friends with people like Dave, Rose, even Vriska and including a boy who never smiles... His name is Karkat Vantas and even though he says they weren't friends, he still counted him as one. Karkat didn't like anyone or anything at all. When Remus York and his best friend Brian have to watch one of their their classmates get beat up and have the police do nothing about it they take matters into their own hands by giving them payback in the form of pranking. Remus and Brian do whatever they have too till the bullies own up to their mistakes but they soon get caught only landing Remus, Brian, and the bullies in trouble they never expected.

This is not your typical high school story.
