The moment I stepped through the glass door, it felt like I'd entered another world. A smaller group was gathered inside-chatting, strumming a guitar, even trying out beats at a DJ booth. Music and laughter spilled into the air.
As I made my way toward the restroom, a guy passed by. "Uh, excuse me," I asked, "may tao pa ba sa loob?"
He glanced back. "Yeah. Two of them."
Minutes ticked by. Still no one came out.
"What's taking these girls so long?" I muttered under my breath, shifting from one foot to the other. From inside, I could hear chatting and laughter-as if the restroom had become their private lounge.
I sighed, leaning against the wall. The DJ was still at it, and his mix was surprisingly good-smooth transitions, beats that made your body move without thinking. I caught myself tapping my foot along.
That's when I noticed it.
Someone staring.
I looked up-and locked eyes with a tall guy across the room. His gaze was sharp, unwavering, the kind that made my stomach flip. I quickly looked away, pretending not to notice, but when I dared a second glance, he was already moving-straight to the DJ booth.
Moments later, the music shifted. A new track filled the room. Stronger, sharper, alive. It was better. Different.
"Not bad," I whispered with a half-smile just as the restroom door finally opened. I slipped inside, sighing in relief.
At the mirror, I checked my reflection. Lip gloss still intact. Blush on point. No smudges. "My makeup's fine," I murmured. "Pero kung maka-titig si guy kanina, akala mo may dumi ako sa mukha. Weird."
When I stepped out, distracted, I didn't notice someone until-bam!-I crashed right into a solid figure.
"Aray! Sorry, my bad!" I blurted out, rubbing my arm.
"It's fine. You okay?" a deep voice asked.
I froze. That voice. I looked up-and there he was. The guy from earlier, for a second, my heart stuttered embarrassingly fast.
