2016. I met a boy with a whole universe inside him, his eyes full of shimmering stardust, like windows into his soul, shining so brightly I could barely look into them for more than a second. His body was like a bridge between the physical and spiritual world, a mind so full of power and knowing, it was like it was spilling from his being in an overflow of glowing aura. He saw behind my borrowed smile and dancing eyes to the loneliness that resided. His mind drew me in, his soul whispering so softly to mine, and, when mine responded, it was like a universe exploding in a shower of stardust. Ashley impulsively decides to take three weeks off from her dead end job and just drive to see where she ends up, sending herself a postcard every day that she is gone. When her car breaks down, she meets a group of people who help her out and give her somewhere to stay. She is irresistibly drawn to them, especially to Kyra, who shows her that life is about much more than simply existing. What was supposed to be a relaxing few weeks off turns into a spiritual journey of soul searching, love, and discovering one's place in the universe. But, then, reality comes knocking... I don't know if anyone can truly forget their first honest to goodness love. There's always a faint, faceless recollection of playground crushes and first girlfriends. But the first person that makes you sort of stop in your tracks the first time you see them and leaves you stuttering for days on end, every time someone even mentions their name? They're unforgettable. That was Diane. She wasn't an average first love either. She was like a fairytale. I swear, whenever I was around her, I heard music. A whole soundtrack. I heard angels singing. I heard everything beautiful there was to hear because I was with the most beautiful person there was to be. She wasn't sweet like honey or hard on the outside but soft on the inside like a Cadbury Creme Egg. No. Diane was exceptionally exceptional. There's no way to describe her without telling her story.

She is a complainer, but she also has a sweet side that tends to slip out when her bestfriend/hippy Marza is around. These two must conquer summer. That includes, playing basketball with the boys, biking around the park, getting in trouble, falling in love (sort of), getting Curtis to dance, successfully pissing off the neighbors, and lots of sweets. Wanderlust and LSD: The Chronicles of a Countercultural Nomad is a vivid and evocative memoir that takes readers on an unforgettable journey through the heart of 1960s America, a time when the world was on the brink of monumental change. Set against the backdrop of the Midwest, this coming-of-age tale chronicles the life of a rebellious young man growing up in the small town of Hilliard, Ohio-a place steeped in conformity and tradition. At the tender age of 15, the narrator finds himself at odds with the rigid expectations of society, his spirit stifled by a school system that values obedience over creativity. After being unjustly failed in the eighth grade for refusing to cut his hair, he begins to explore the burgeoning counterculture scene at Ohio State University's North High Street. Here, he encounters the rising tide of the hippie movement and the mind-expanding possibilities of LSD, setting the stage for a transformative summer. The story weaves through a series of vivid experiences-hitchhiking to underground concerts, experimenting with psychedelic drugs, and navigating the complex social dynamics of the time. As he delves deeper into the world of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll, the young protagonist grapples with his identity, his place in a rapidly changing world, and the larger questions of freedom and rebellion. Wanderlust and LSD is not just a memoir of youthful defiance and self-discovery; it is a snapshot of a pivotal moment in American history. It captures the essence of a generation searching for meaning in the face of societal upheaval and the personal journey of one young man as he seeks to break free from the constraints of his upbringing and forge a new path. This is a story of rebellion, of the search for identity, and of the enduring quest for freedom in a world that often seems intent on denying it.

Hippies! The War! Poetry! Nixon! “This is a very raunchy but absolutely brilliant and hilarious hippy book set for the most part in the first couple years of the 1970s, primarily in Berkeley. At first I didn't think I was going to like this, but after I got about half way into Chapter 1, I was completely hooked. I had feared it might be stylistically-derivative of Kerouac and Kesey, but Ratch has his own distinctive voice and take on things. This book makes me homesick for a brand of freedom that is long gone. “This is a completely wonderful book... You'll love all these crazy characters. Tell all your friends they must read this novel. At a bare minimum it deserves the status of being a major cult hit.” -- Bob R. Bogle, Reviewer
