The year is 1024, the queen of Brittney writes of her kinsmen, the three kings named Ragnarr. These three kings were warrior kings and raiders who plagued the coasts of many from Ireland to Rome. (This book is based off my gameplay of the Paradox Interactive game, Crusader Kings II.)

With her younger sister, Helena, by her side, she flees the ashes of her once-peaceful home, navigating a war-torn land where every stranger is a potential enemy, and every act of kindness could be a trap. As the sisters seek refuge, Luiza carries more than just the weight of survival-she carries guilt, grief, and a faith that wavers with every step. When they find sanctuary in a grand, untouched church, it feels like a cruel joke. How can a God that let their world burn still shine through these stained-glass windows? But war does not spare even the faithful. And when betrayal comes from the least expected place, Luiza must decide whether to cling to her anger or find strength in the one thing she has left-Helena.
