Consequently, many villages faced a lack of resource and so Glassloch (a village on the outskirts of Mercia) decided to hold a 'Ceremony' every year for 16 year old girls. These ceremonies were an event to judge whether a girl was suitable to stay in the village or not. They were performed in order to maintain a sustainable population in the village. Those who failed in this ceremony vanished; those who succeeded were promised a life of happiness. Decades later, the Ceremony became recognised as a village tradition that girls celebrated. However, nobody questioned where the vanished girls went, because those that went through the Ceremony didn't remember what really happened...
