A stolen diary, an English project and a lot of hormonal teenagers starts off this story. Joanne is a feisty introverted college freshman that just so happens to be stuck with the most popular guy in school for an English project. Love blossoms and Joanne feels as though all will be fine. She would recover from her sister's death and finally be happy once again. Fate isn't having it though. Just when everything started to go in the right direction, her entire world based on fantasies of a better tomorrow comes crashing down. Just then she realizes that all she had ever accomplished and all the good things that ever happened to her were nothing but lies. When Joanne Gyles discovers her sister's killer but also happens to be in love with him, she must choose between what is right and what her heart wants. Excerpt: "As if I knew. Its just... Cory." I keep on ranting. "One moment he acts like he doesn't care, the next moment he's breathing down my neck with worry. I can't stand him, at the same time I hate when he's not around. Its like I'm addicted to what I hate the most. I'm so stressed out." Who is ever really able to explain the boy that you hated the most, forced you to be a genie, made you go to a party, made you start using cuss words. In short turned your life upside down, has made you also fall for him. Fall so deep that now, a life without him seems like a void in need of filling. It scared her. Love sucks, and that had been Joanne's motto for the past two years, fate had dealt her a bad hand but with Cory everything didn't seem all that bad.

You know those girls who break guys hearts, steal cars and seem utterly heartless? Yeah? Well normally they are put up to it. This is where Cherry comes in. The Fates are the people, if you can call them that, who decide the life for people. Yes, The Fates cause your fate, laugh it up. They take those who have been a little inconvenient and attempt to brainwash them into their doings. Basically they, the Inconvenients, are the ones who fight fate and basically fight The Fates. And if they become horribly bad, much like Cherry was, then they get to play a piece in The Fates game. Well it isn't a game. It's more of life. The Inconvenients are taken to Sideways (which is where The Fates are), where basically The Fates tell them how much of a screw up they are. But then they tell them that they have to help the Fates, unless they want to go to Below. They then become someone in another's life that plays a brutal role that changes the way their life was going. But what happens when Cherry, an Inconvenient, meets another Inconvenient who shares the same view as Cherry? The view that everyone should have their own free will and not be controlled by The Fates.

Madison felt extremely satisfied with her life. With a loving family, excellent grades, a caring boyfriend, and a good job, everything was looking up. That is until she gets hit by a car, leaving her blind as the driver walks away with only a scratch, literally. She was involved in a hit and run. Already having to deal with her loss, Madison finds herself unable to do her job, her grades dropping, and having her boyfriend distance himself from her. To make the situation worse, Madison finds that she has been outcasted by her classmates. After seeing what their daughter is going through, Madison's parents can no longer see her suffer, and decide to move.
