Hiyori had never paid all that much attention to the summer solstice. To him, it was just an ordinary day, nothing special. Only, this year, things were different. He and Ikuya had been invited to visit Iwatobi with Haruka, Makoto, Asahi and Kisumi to celebrate a festival that took place each year. And when he had seen how enthusiastic Ikuya had seemed about it, Hiyori couldn't find it within him to say no. At first glance, many people tended to think that Ikuya and Hiyori were polar opposites. They had their similarities like any other couple but the main difference had to be that Ikuya was permanently cold. It didn't matter what the weather was like, it didn't matter how many layers he wore, it didn't matter if they were in the middle of a damn heatwave. Ikuya was always cold. Astronomy had always been a topic of interest for Ikuya. Ever since he was young, he had a fascination with stars and planets alike, often giving his parents trouble by staying up past his bedtime so that he could watch the stars. Even now as a university student, there was something so familiar, so comforting about watching the stars. To Ikuya, Hiyori was his rock. The brunet had been by his side for a large period of his life and he had seen everything. They had seen each other at their best and at their worst. They had seen each other on the days when they were determined to take on the world and also on the days where they felt hopeless. Or the five times Hiyori helped Ikuya through a panic attack and the one time Ikuya helped Hiyori through one

Ikuya is a florist who promotes his business mostly through social media with a completely healthy relationship with coffee who happens to meet Hiyori who is a barista with a less than great social life. Despite having lived 18 years of his life, gaining various knowledge and life skills, there was one area which Ikuya had found Hiyori lacked in. He was, in the nicest way possible, a disaster at packing for vacations. Luckily, Ikuya was always there to help control the chaos. Hiyori knows now. How much of an antagonist he is. How much of a folly his actions had been. He knows now how undeserving of Ikuya's friendship he is, but he also knows how hard it is to be someone you're not, even when you do it to stay by a loved one's side. Ikuya had always thought of Hiyori as a nuisance of a friend whom he tolerates because he can be 100% honest around him. He knows Hiyori can be overbearing, manipulative, insincere, mean, even, but he cannot deny that Hiyori had always put Ikuya first in every way possible. But as they drift apart, Ikuya realises that he may have known the Hiyori the Troublesome Meddling Caretaker, but never Hiyori the Living, Breathing Human with Feelings.

It had been Natusya's idea to visit a waterpark when he returned to Japan and of course, Ikuya and Hiyori readily agreed, seeing as the weather had been uncomfortably hot for the past few weeks. And of course, he just had to challenge someone to race him. It was practically a personality trait at this point.
