Everyone knows what happens to butterflies. Their lives begin quietly in an egg before they grow restless as caterpillars, disappearing into the security of a cocoon before emerging transformed, one of nature's proudest creations. But what happens to the ones that have had their wings clipped before ever having left the ground?
I had never doubted I'd fall in love someday. The true, romantic love you read about in books, or the sinister, tragic kind sung about. I just never expected it to feel this way: the intense adoration, the feeling of having the breath stolen from my lungs with every word he spoke, and the overwhelming admiration I felt lying beside him.
Somewhere along the way, it changed. Adoration twisted into longing, the aching need for my love to be reciprocated. It was something that felt inevitable, inescapable.
If it weren't for him, perhaps I never would have built up the courage to soar, knowing I would fall, not realising it would be desperately in love.

Slow burn between Matteo Riddle and my Original Character Bella Dew. All Characters belong to JKR, excluding: Matteo Riddle (who belongs to Yasmin), the Dew family, Diana Burroughs, Alya MΓ©chante, Lexie Concou, Felix Stone, Jessie Crawford, and Alfie MacMillan (all my own original characters).
Strong themes of domestic violence, substance abuse, and depression later on in the story. I don't recommend reading if you find these topics particularly triggering.
