(PLEASE READ) This short story is based on one of the first bomings of Hamburg carried out by the in August of the attack during the last week of July 1943. This would be the first attack of a nonstop 2 week bombing of the biggest city. They used many tactics, the dry spell and humid air being the main player in how the firestorms moved so fast across the biggest port city. Operation Gomorrah, created one of the largest firestorms raised by the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces in World War II, killing an estimated 34,000 people in Hamburg, wounding 180,000 more, and destroying 60% of the city's houses. Hamburg was selected as a target because it was considered particularly susceptible to attack with incendiaries, (basically big boy bombs) I picked this because so many lives were lost, so many stories that would never get to be told. Love hidden between the streets, kindness shared by neighbors. Stories that very well may have happened. This is my first time writing historical fiction, so I deeply apologize for any inaccuracies or offense to anyone of these cultures. This is my submission story for the prompt: "Write a story that subverts a historical event, or is a retelling of that event." The song that is shown in this short story is "I'll be seeing you" by Billie Holiday

Aithlin's life begins in 1943 Poland, marked by the horrors of Auschwitz at the tender age of seven. She is the sole survivor of her family, her parents and brothers succumbing to the gas chambers while she, due to a horrific medical experiment, undergoes a profound mutation. The formula injected into her transforms her, granting her wings and superhuman abilities, including accelerated healing and slowed aging. This survival, however, is attributed to the divine intervention of Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. As the war concludes, a compassionate Australian soldier smuggles her out of the camps and to America, where she is adopted and experiences nine years of relative normalcy. This fragile peace is shattered when hunters discover her abilities, leading to the tragic death of her adoptive parents. This event forces Aithlin into an eighty-year existence on the run, honing her combat skills and constantly evading capture. Driven by an unknown purpose, she is ultimately drawn to modern-day Korea. While attending a K-pop concert, she spots the soldier who saved her years ago. The faint glow of the Artemis mark on his collarbone signals a critical turning point, suggesting the end of her solitary, hunted life and the potential to finally understand her destiny.

The events are based on actual true events of the Holocaust.. but the characters aren't real Ashes of the Violet Sky follows four Holocaust survivors as they navigate the aftermath of war, struggling to heal from the trauma of unimaginable loss. Set against a war-torn Europe, they carry the weight of forgotten memories and the stories of those who can no longer speak for themselves. In Vienna, Ilsa, a violinist, plays a haunting melody to bring healing to the city's survivors, while the survivors themselves begin to rebuild what was lost. But when the twin Books-symbols of forgotten knowledge-are brought together, time shifts, and the survivors face the truth that silence is both their burden and their salvation. A story of resilience, memory, and the quiet power of hope, Ashes of the Violet Sky explores the enduring human spirit in the aftermath of tragedy.

In 1933 Germany, Adeline Sommer and Esther Goldberg are the best of friends. One little problem though- Esther is Jewish. Adeline doesn't care, but it seems as if the rest of the world does. It soon becomes apparent that Berlin is no longer safe for Esther, and that their friendship is actually endangering Adeline's life. As if fighting for their friendship wasn't hard enough already, it seems nearly impossible when a protective Nazi officer enters the scene. He'll do anything to keep Adeline safe, and that means either destroying her friendship with Esther or putting his own life on the line. ••• {This book is historical fiction. Most characters and events are invented by me. I am not German, nor am I an expert on German culture. Please kindly let me know if I state anything incorrectly. Plagiarism is prohibited.
