Dante Eagleman was a lot of things. They were an eighteen-year-old enigma and utterly obsessed with the concept of becoming the music they listened to. Others, enthralled by this idea, followed Dante's musical epiphany until, one day, it got out of hand.
Four months later, Dante was found dead.
East October Matrine, a former friend of Dante's, finds Dante's body in their bathroom, and on it, a note. Her name.
After visiting a few places and using the past to guide her, she finds more clues. Certain that only she can figure out who is Dante's murderer, she embarks on a journey to find them. But instead of finding Dante's murderer... She finds Dante's ghost, now crowned death itself.
With a lot of chaos, humor, unsaid words, and the discovery that the two cannot touch without East dying, Dante reveals that everyone becomes the song that best represents them when they die. And their synesthesia that they had while alive was actually them hearing everyone's death songs.
Both fighting ghosts (as well as each other), they each travel down an obstacle-packed path of music, paranormal activity, forgiveness, and the art of dying.
And everyone, dead or living, will be affected.
