Memento Vivere [Latin phrase] Meaning: Remember to live --------------- She lived in a world where perfection was the motto So she forgot to live while striving for perfection She lived in a world where what people thought of her was more important than what she thought of herself So she forgot to live while striving to please people She lived in a world where nobody would accept the fact that she was dark skinned and beautiful So she forgot to live while striving to achieve the perfect skin tone She lived in a world where the injustice done to her was more her fault than the culprit's So she forgot to live while striving to prove her innocence But at night, when the world was as empty and quiet as her soul, when the only things she could hear were her heartbeat and the howling winds, they would all whisper the same thing to her. 'Remember to live'... ------- Note : Any resemblance to anyone's name or story is purely coincidental. All the stories and characters mentioned inside are fiction.

They call it "honor." But whose honor survives a woman's death? This poem questions the silence around honor killings - a violence that is not confined to one country, one religion, one caste, or one class. It is everywhere. It hides behind family pride, tradition, and fragile egos. When a woman is killed for loving, choosing, or simply existing outside imposed boundaries, the world often debates "respect" instead of mourning her voice. This piece asks what we refuse to ask: Why does a family's reputation weigh more than a woman's life? Why is there no microphone for the dead girl? Honor does not bleed. Women do.
