The Bazigars. A group of Indian nomad-gipsy folk of India, found throughout Northern India. Many have special talents such as juggling, basket-weaving, dancing, fortune-telling and acrobatics. Many clans are formed within the Bazigar society, and the five main sub-groups are the Jogi, Badtia, Mushal, Dharamsot and Namsout. Intermarriage is not allowed between the sub-groups.
Through a turn of unexpected events, Syeira, a Jogi, falls in love with Niyol, a Mushal. Worse still, Syeira’s family had already been dishonoured, and being a woman, she isn’t allowed to choose her own husband. She knows her parents would definitely disapprove of her marrying a Mushal as it would only bring more shame upon their family name. Now, Syeira has to make a choice; a decision between her family’s honour and her love. Will Syeira make the right choice? Or will she make a wrong turn in life?
Set in the early 1900s, in Rajasthan, India, this story touches the themes of love, faith, honour, the rights of a woman, and loyalty. This story shall take you on a journey, a journey of the life of a Bazigar.
