With the help of a strong family unit, that she falls into, answers slowly begin to surface along with more dangers and an ever present underlying love for a headstrong, stubborn, overprotective cowboy...

This short story is based on real-life events, however, the story has been modified with fiction. The story is about a woman who loses a dear friend, while holding on to faith in God through grief and healing. I recently came across a writing prompt titled 'Something Doesn't Go According To Plan,' and it was one of the factors that inspired me to write this short story. The title reminded me of the emotional real-life story, and that connection became part of what inspired this story.

Back in a small town in Wyoming is a barn where all of the horses are started from scratch, they come in usually from rescues or auctions and they rehome or train them, one day the daughter of the owner Harley Maeve, she was in charge of feeding, there was new horses that came in before her feeding so she knew some of them were new, she finished feeding until she locked eyes with a horse, this horse was a black dappled quarter horse, his mane and tail torn, she felt something with this horse unlike any horse.

Harper Smith lives on her mother's horse rescue with her mother and a few of the stable hands. Harper has been riding before she could walk and is a senior in high school and would probably be considered one of the popular kids, but that's not how she sees it and when Phoenix arrives after purchasing him from his owners for a mere 250$ because they were too stressed about the fire and the insurance. the stable next door has been bought after being for sale for 5 years, but by who? Will Harper and Phoenix be able to trust each other?
