AU-ish. Avery Hotchner is Aaron Hotchner's 18 year old genius niece. When her parents (Hotch's brother and sister in law) are killed, Avery decides to leave college and take Hotch's long-standing offer to be a part of the BAU. Taking the job means gaining new family members- the rest of the team. Slowly, Avery learns to trust and love again - and she might even perhaps fall in love with the team's very own Spencer Reid, the resident 23-year-old boy wonder. (yes I realize Spencer wouldn't be 23 in this, as it is loosely based around season five, although hardly anything from the actual show applies, besides the lives of the characters. Once the girl found out she was pregnant she left Derek and moved far away from him. 13 years later Derek meets his daughter, Hope. Hope's mother has lost her battle with cancer and Hope shows up at the FBI looking for her father. She knows his name and where he works but that is it.

But even a white rose has a black shadow, as Kennedy has a past that's coming to catch up with her. Will she except Spencer's help and open up? Or will she push him away like everyone else? And Emily Prentiss has been more and more distant. What is distracting her, and will it affect this case? And how does the case connect to Spencer's past?
