Lyric has never believed in love and she intends to keep it that way.
Growing up in a home filled with constant arguments, she learned early that love doesn't lead to happiness. It leads to noise, distance, and disappointment. So when she arrives at Howard University, she isn't looking for romance, friendship, or change. She's looking to keep her peace exactly as it is.
People tell her college will change her. That someone will change her. Lyric isn't interested in proving them right.

Damion doesn't believe in love either but for different reasons.
To him, love isn't something to discover. It's something that breaks people. His understanding of it was shaped by what he saw growing up, and reinforced by what he lost. After that, he made a decision: he would not repeat what he had seen.
But Howard has a way of putting people in places they didn't plan for.
And sometimes, avoiding love is just another way of waiting for it.
