In the hidden folds of Moonbridge Hollow-where mist curls through pine trees like something alive and quietly watching-Nightshade has always been a steady presence. A twelfth grader with college dreams and stories still waiting to be written, she moves through the world gently... though the world doesn't always know what to make of her at first glance. But Eddie and Emmanuel, the twin wolf pups with restless energy and softer hearts than they'll admit, never needed explanations. To them, she has always been pack. Not just a visitor. Not just the girl who brings calm voices, warm hands, and safety after long days of being misunderstood by the older wolves who never quite accepted them. Nightshade is the one who stays when nightmares hit hardest. The one who listens without flinching when fear makes everything too loud. The one who never treats their emotions like something to outgrow. And the pups adore her for it. They wait for her footsteps. Recognize her scent before she's even close. When fear wakes them in the dark, they don't run to the elders who turn away-they run straight to her, like it's instinct. Like it's right. Because it is. What they don't realize-at least not yet-is that Nightshade isn't just close to the pack. She belongs to it. Not by blood or ceremony, but by something older and quieter, something the forest seems to recognize even when others hesitate. And when that truth finally surfaces, it doesn't tear anything apart. It settles. It clicks. The pack watches, uncertain. Some question. Some resist. But Eddie and Emmanuel don't hesitate for even a second. They're too busy being excited-too busy celebrating the fact that the person they already trusted with everything finally stands where she was always meant to be. And somewhere between whispered acceptance and shifting loyalties, there's their favorite ritual-the double consonant game. She's ready to win.

Every 200 hundred years a werewolf was set to mate with a human, a curse that was set upon due to an alpha falling in love with one, denying his true mate. The moon goddess was furious with such an action, causing a ripple to sound through the earths core. A alpha was sent to kill the human, roars sounding through the night sky. And with one single slice, the woman bleed to death. Dangerous is one word anyone would use to describe a relationship between the two species. One full of many disasters, heartbreak, lies, & pain. ~ "I don't want to hurt you." His dark voice beamed through the empty bedroom, blue orbs darkened to a black, lust swimming in his eyes. "You won't Arlic, trust yourself." I took a hesitate step toward him, the boards creaking under my steps. I felt his gaze dance down my body, drinking everything in sight. "You're a human, i'm a werewolf... these things don't mix." My heart shattered hearing those words, cracking in two. "I want you to leave." He tore his gaze from my body, a lip catching between his teeth. "Now!" He yelled my way, causing tears to leak from my eyes, rolling down my porcelain cheeks. "How could you!?" And with nothing else, I turned my back and walked away. Thinking i'd never see him again. My werewolf mate.

I was only created for one specific reason. To create an alphas offspring and provide them with unique gifts that could only be created by myself. Each of my children would have their own strength and power. I'm an important asset to the werewolf community, and to the ancestors that apparently blessed my family with that one duty in life. It's an honorable position and is held with grace and poise, but I would beg to differ; because I'm a human.
