When life struggles the most with me, poems flow from my heart, through my arms, and into my fingers, shedding light on what would otherwise be utterly dark. Here are those enlightened moments of my existence.

With both love and hate in his eyes, he stared down at me like I was a child. I didn't want to be here I didn't want to feel this with him. "Out of everything you have ever stolen, you never have thought about what you stole from me." He spat back at me glaring down at me with so many mixed emotions in his eyes I don't know if he wants me, or wants to kill me. "Oh, really what?" I asked I wasn't backing down I wasn't afraid of him I wasn't going to let him believe he can intimate me just because he was a werewolf. "Everything." That word lost me in a sea of emotions, it felt like time stopped, my heart stopped, I did not know what to say and for the first time since meeting him I can really I was actually speechless but without even thinking words spilled from my mouth. "So what do you want me to do, Caspian?" "It's not about you, I'm not letting you go and you need to deal with it." The dominance in his eyes, the threatening tone in his voice this was different Caspian was different. Something in him changed or maybe it just broke but this was a new plot twist to my life.

Demons have plagued the world for decades now. When they appeared they brought freak storms, new volcanos, strange fertile havens in otherwise uninhabitable places, and much more. But that's ancient history, especially to Ash Valley, WA. Demons may be a nuisance, but they aren't all bad. Maggie's house-mate Sam used to possess her brother Dill. Her cousin Sandler's mother died from a possession gone wrong. That's just the way the world works. Occasionally you have to dig out the torches and pitchforks to drive off an invading force that wants to destroy your town. Except, things don't like to stay quiet after a demon war. Especially in a Ash Valley, and especially for a family who have been monster-hunters since the start. A new demonic force has already popped up. One that may mean disaster, or at least according to Sam. One that may just show how... human... these Demons can be.

I am writing a book about my life. I want to write a memoir of a "normal" human. A person who doesn't come from status or money or hasn't done anything overwhelmingly extravagant with their life. I am just a person wanting her story to be told in a way that empowers other people to go out and change their lives. I've travelled to thirteen countries and while I've experienced heartache and loss, I've seen wonder and been fulfilled. I've felt the effects of privilege and empathized with those who continue to face racialization and criminalization in this century. With this book I write about my time in grad school learning about philosophy, geography and what it means to be human. My story is not an easy one to tell, but the best things in life come from pushing the boundaries of impossibility.
