The Bird and Freedom This poem presents a comparison between freedom and human life through the voice of a bird. The bird describes its free flight, its direction, its purpose, and its natural way of living. It moves without barriers, guided only by the sky and instinct. Through its voice, it also reflects on human beings, who are often bound by rules, responsibilities, and invisible chains. While the bird enjoys open skies, humans are shown living within limits-of society, expectations, and struggles that often restrict their freedom. In the end, the poem inspires human beings to find their own "wings"-to discover inner strength, break limitations, and move toward true freedom in life.

A young woman escapes from the tyrannical island on the water world where she and her family are enslaved, and - via wormhole (where infinity is compressed into a singular space) - lands on Earth in the present day, to her abundant relief... and her abundant regret. This story, told in two parts (I separated them into two chapters on this platform for ease), is a speculative allegory for real-life past and present-day accounts of forced labor and how they tear apart families. In the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, it won a National Gold Medal - the competition's highest possible award - placing it in the top 0.35% of entries out of over 310,000 entries from all over the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, it was published in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards' Annual Anthology: Writing Selections from the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, which only chose 55 pieces of writing to be published in print out of roughly 155,000, placing my story in the top 0.035% of all entered works in the 2025 competition. Scholastic's word limit is 3,000, and my original story contained exactly that amount. This expanded version is 4,600 words. I added lots of dialogue and extra description that I thought would elevate the story. The narrative, plot, characters, and everything else are exactly the same. Feel free to leave feedback and comment on anything!!!

"The Weight of Silence" By Chaitanya Trapped in a world of his own thoughts, a young man battles the suffocating silence that surrounds him. His days blend into one another, filled with the oppressive weight of isolation and a longing for something-anything-that might break through the stillness of his existence. In a room that feels too small and a mind that feels even smaller, he confronts the truth he's been avoiding for as long as he can remember. With every passing moment, the silence grows louder, forcing him to face the dark corners of his soul. But some truths are too heavy to carry, and some silences too deafening to ignore. As the walls close in, he must decide if he can bear the weight, or if the silence will consume him entirely.

The world doesn't stand on grand gestures. It stands on the little things no one notices. On bolts tightened just in time. On papers signed without rushing. On people who simply did what needed to be done. We like to believe we can leave things for tomorrow, That one overlooked detail won't matter. But life is woven from those small things. Sometimes one loose screw brings down a bridge. One piece of cardboard left "just for a minute" ends up starting something that can't be undone. Disaster is born not from anger, but from indifference. Not from betrayal, But from the habit of saying "later." And someone always pays for it- usually the ones who deserve it least. This story is about that. About a world balanced between negligence and conscience, between the mistake and the price that follows. About how many "later" can turn out to be the last
