They grew up together and were inspirable, until they turned five, this is not only when their grandfather found out about Kotoko's marriage to a 'Commoner' and Haruhi's existence. But the same year Haruhi's mother died. In grief their grandfather threw himself into his work, not even sparing a glance two his family since. Around two years later Akira's parent's were murdered in front of her, her grandfather, eloped in his work, didn't even notice, and so she was adopted into the Fujioka family, yet keeping her Fuyu name.
