A RWBY AU where the main focus is team REGN (pronounced "Reign"), an unlikely but tightly bonded team of four students brought together by fate and forged through trials at Beacon Academy. Each member carries a unique past, powerful abilities, and personal struggles, yet together they form one of the most promising and dynamic first-year teams in recent memory. The members of team REGN are Ruby Rose, Ethan Haywood, Gypsy Jaeger, and Nebula Groms. Trouble usually finds and comes to them, putting them in high-risk scenarios where Ethan's foresight, Ruby's initiative, Gypsy's resourcefulness, and Nebula's unrelenting drive prove essential. As Peter becomes increasingly involved in Team RWBY's journey, he finds himself caught in a conflict much larger than he anticipated, facing enemies he has never encountered and dangers unlike anything waiting for him back in New York. This is a new piece I recently finished and I suppose it's sort of a "teaser" because it will be in my new short story collection (which happens to derive its name from this piece), THE WOLVES IN THE WOODS. That collection will be coming out summer of next year and will mark my first collection since the release of SOMETIMES THE ANGELS WEEP. I've been writing short stories for years and, unlike my novels, they always seem to come out speculative. I like this one because it's sort of self-referential. There's something about art being aware of itself that really intrigues me. I hope you like it, too.
