It's always been a big headcanon of mine that after Balthazar said that line that it got Dean thinking and made him confront Castiel leading to a confession but also the tragedy of it since Castiel was working with Crowley and how different and more painful would that betrayal at the end feel if they were dating. Hope you guys liked the title: lost because Dean begins Lost in his life, with love; Found when Dean and Castiel get together and Lost again because of the betrayal pulling them apart.

Dean just turns 5 and he is very excited to visit Hawaii, but on their way to Hawaii with the cruise ship, something unacceptable happens. Well, let just say the title says it all.

Introduction: So it all begins with 26 year old Dean Winchester going to his childhood house in Lawrence, Kansas to celebrate Christmas with his mother and father. Sam is there visiting from Stanford with his girlfriend Jessica. Bobby Singer, who is a close friend of his fathers, is coming with his wife Ellen and daughter Jo. His mother calls to tell him to be careful because the weather is very bad with slippery, slushy, snow and ice all over the roads. Of course Dean tells her not to worry and that his middle name is careful, But on his way there he gets in a terrible car accident and is in a coma. The story continues ten years later when he wakes up and everything he thought he experienced was from his imagination. (he wakes up when the darkness is released) **possible spoilers from anything up to season 10 finale**

Dean Winchester had everything. A patient husband who stayed up far later than needed on nights that he worked late. His little brother was getting married. Co-workers who were practically family. A job that he loved even with the long hours and constant danger. Then it was all taken away. The worst part about it, he doesn't remember a damn thing. Now he has to try and catch that same flame of his old life all over again. To catch a flame of the memories he doesn't have.

(Following Dean's return from purgatory) After a year of clawing through purgatory in search of Castiel, Dean finds himself back home, but the loss of his dearest friend is weighing on him; both in his dreams and while he wakes, he can see Castiel's haunted face just as he remembered it from their last moments together at the gate to earth - his torn and dirtied clothes draped over reaching arms. While tormented by these all too vivid mirages Dean struggles to find the strength he once had; the ability to pretend that things never got to him, but as the days go by - each longer and more tiresome than the last - his composure and strength of will fades rapidly. With Castiel gone and the knowledge that Sammy gave up on him settling like a heavy stone in his stomach Dean yearns for times gone by when simply calling Cas's name would bring the Angel to his side, now, however, his calls go unanswered but for the ever present illusions.
