Zahra Paradise was the beauty and marvel that preceded The Sahara Desert Even The Amazon, in its previous glory, paled in comparison. Cool, clear rivers meandered through the landscape while waterfalls thundered with a low roar. The day was a perfect balance: a clear blue sky, warm and bright, met with a constant, refreshing breeze. Overhead, brilliantly colored birds sang in a continuous, harmonious chorus that filled the air. Animals frolicked, flowers blazed with impossible colours, and every breeze carried the scent of life itseif. It was a paradise built by The Creator, praised and adored by the gods. But envy took root. Azazel, the king of the Underworld, grew restless of the ceaseless worship. In a quiet act of defiance he planted a seed - three Beings, shaped in divine likeness, set loose to "enjoy" the Creator's work... but really to unravel it from within. What began as beauty became temptation, and temptation grew into rebellion. In an epic showdown, Azazel corrupts the first men and wages war on the gods, forever changing the face of the earth. Paradise cracked, Zahra fell. What was once splendour turned to scorched earth and a sandy desert; Sahara, a desolate wasteland, a monument to their sins. But The Lord's judgment brought forth a powerful curse and a promise of salvation. This is the origin story of the Shapeshifters: Humans, Lionshifters and the Hyenashifters-a new generation born to live with the consequences of an ancient war

She's friends with shifters but she doesn't know. She also come from a line of shifters. How it starts is at first both sides of her family come from a long line of shifters later on the shifters start mating humans and then the actual shifters being born in her family are few and far between. Till it gets to her great grandparents grandparents and her parents who aren't shifters even though they have shifter blood in them they themselves aren't shifters they don't even consider the possibility of their kids being shifters so she literally shifts by herself one day with no idea what's going on. She runs to her shifter friends but like I said she had no idea they were shifters. They help her through it though.
