Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ is a novel by Lew Wallace, published by Harper and Brothers on November 12, 1880 and considered "the most influential Christian book of the nineteenth century". [1] It became a best-selling American novel, surpassing Harriet Beecher Stowe 's Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852) in sales. The book also inspired other novels with biblical settings and was adapted for the stage and motion picture productions. The story recounts the adventures of Judah Ben-Hur , a Jewish prince from Jerusalem, who is enslaved by the Romans at the beginning of the first century and becomes a charioteer and a Christian. Running in parallel with Judah's narrative is the unfolding story of Jesus, from the same region and around the same age. The novel reflects themes of betrayal, conviction, and redemption, with a revenge plot that leads to a story of love and compassion.

"What is imagination? I've never heard that word before." Every idea has been used. Every joke has been told. Every picture has been painted. Every colour has been chosen. The world is monotone. But into this world bound by economy and productivity, this world without escape, come nine girls who find their way into St Eglantine's Home for the Mentally Unsound. They are strange. They are hated. They do inexplicable things. They are the hope of returning creativity to the world. But they must find people who will listen, people who are willing to be inspired, before their unknown enemy catches up with them and destroys imagination forever.

In a country called Tora rules by a tyrant, King Livliean, many lands and peoples have felt his power hungry wrath. These lands include the small island nation called Unway, whose children were taken and forced into a religion that was not their own, and then into slavery on their own land. When the princess of the nation refused to follow the rules he and his temple put forth, she is forced to sing hymns of his religion from her tower prison over the temple, every noon and midnight. The stained glass window that once was above the capital's temple was shattered and formed into a dress that she is forced to wear. Stripped of her island name, she adopts the name Hymn. After years of abuse, and fighting for revenge and freedom, a young rebel named Agatha makes her way to the capital city to cut the head off the snake. When the resistance that lives in the capital tells her of the princess, she immediately decides to ask for her help. After a bit of convincing, the princess agrees, but only after Agatha agrees to free her people. Together with other members of the resistance, they plan to dethrone the king. *Caution: Themes of Rape (no graphic description, just suggestion), gore and violence.
