When she was done, she handed our different assignments to us. It was a list of names, people who were yet to be part of us. My colleagues signed their allegiance with their pierced bloody thumb. I turned to leave after getting my list, bit her voice called me back. "Lashula, come back!" My legs stopped moving and came to a halt. My name isn't Lashula, but anytime that name was mentioned, I always felt as though it was directed at me. While I stood there waiting, same lady circled around me sniffing my body. "Shukura is pleased with you. But you must let her completely take over your mind and body." She pointed at me. "Your church had become a massive revenue. But we need 'the five'. We need you to channel 'the five' and get his members filled with crimson light." The idea formed in me one day when I was considering sanctimonious televangelists who end up caught in hypocrisy. I wondered, "what makes these guys tick?" Ultimately it is a story about how a toxic brand of Christianity motivated by guilt, shame, condemnation, and self-loathing pushes its adherents deeper into the sins it preaches against but that redemption and grace can be experienced in the most desperate and hopeless of places. . . . But ultimately I wrote it so as to be open to interpretation.

I followed the voice to the deep end straight into the abyss, never thought it would end but gladly it did. The thoughts did not stop right then and there, it went even deeper never would have thought that these certain thoughts will go through my head. I decided to end it all, finally... Everything went silent, cold and... dark... I seem to be in a place where I'm all alone with my thoughts, no one else is here... Freefalling into darkness, like how the demons are destined to be at the end of everything... The feeling of the cold air as I fall down deeper into the abyss... I can't see anything, I can't move, all I can do is feel the air and listen to my own thoughts. It seems like it will be like this forever, did I make the wrong decision? Did I mess up once again? But then, a bright light flashed right before my eyes, fortunately, I did find my hope but not the way I expected it to be. I'm back again, I was afraid, was that all part of a dream? Was it all in my head? Fortunately this time, I found my hope.. It's not widely respected and prioritized by people nowadays, but, I still chose this because, this is the only thing that filled that emptiness that I have been feeling. Ever since that day, I never felt hollow, I'm glad that I will never have to experience it again, I'm tired of it, sick of it all. I think, I might have found the light at the end of the tunnel... That's what I thought to myself, but then something with my surroundings, seems off... I'm now afraid of what's to come, I don't trust the future no more.
