Emma Montgomery (sister of Mike Montgomery) and Ian Happ are the couple that other couples wish they were. Emma works from home, as an online travel agent, while Ian plays baseball for the Chicago Cubs, although you probably already knew that. They have twins, one boy and one girl. The twins are two years old and sassy. They weren't planning on having anymore for a few years because the pregnancy with the twins was unexpected but that all changes when Emma takes a test that confirms that the couples third child is on the way. Now they have to prepare for a third child while raising the two children they already have, Ian playing baseball and Emma working from home. This second unexpected pregnancy doesn't change them as people or as a couple. And maybe one day, when they're ready, they'll be married.

After getting her heartbroken by a professional baseball player before, twenty-three year old Hallie Epstein, daughter of Cubs president Theo Epstein vows to never date a baseball player again. She gets a job with the Chicago Cubs, not because of her dad but because of her qualifications, as the head athletic trainer, and she's gonna be around baseball players all the time. The single guys on the team are attracted to her, and have asked her out but she rejected them. When she meets outfielder, Ian Happ, she feels something that she never felt before but doesn't think anything of it. Ian asks her out but Kayla goes to reject him because of her promise to herself. After many times of asking, she finally gives in, they go on a date and she likes it, and she wants to go out with him more. It's almost like smoke. She likes Ian a lot, and it's becoming addicting.
