Mana is not a force that moves through the world. Mana is the world - every stone, every root, every living thing an expression of the same substance in different states of becoming. For as long as anyone can remember, the great Mana Veins running beneath Elyndor's three continents have kept that becoming in motion. Now, quietly and without announcement, they are failing. Kaelen of Aurelia can hear two resonances where a person should hear one. Lyra of the Verdant Pact has spent six years listening to a set of ancient measuring columns tell her something is wrong and finding no one willing to act on it. Darius of the Ironfang Dominion has spent his life filing true things in the place where he keeps true things that are currently unusable, until the night he walks out of his father's fortress and cannot go back. Three people on three continents, moving separately toward the same silence - the spreading stillness of a world beginning to forget the shape of itself. They did not choose this. The world is not asking for chosen people. It is asking for people willing to hear it at its worst and stay anyway. The ancient Works of the Predecessors are still standing. The answers are already here. Nobody has learned to read them yet.
