A short story defining the difference between religion and the supernatural.

This is a world, where when you're 10 years old, you're ability is activated. As soon as government figures out what it is, they give you a tattoo with a symbol to represent what you can do, so it is exposed to the public. The more powerful you become, the tattoo begins to grow- on its own. But there's a twist. All races aside from whites and blacks have gone extinct from a mysterious epidemic. White people have the tattoos, black people do not. It's believed that white people got the epidemic, but they mutated to accommodate, while the others just died off and the blacks stayed the same. With the world in ruin, someone somewhere decided that blacks would go back to being slaves to whites, and if they fought back, whites would destroy them with whatever ability they had. It was survival of the fittest. It was a world of fear for half of the population. This is the world Mara grew up in, and she believed every word they brainwashed her with. Mara has always been different. She's had to change her appearance to try and fit in since elementary school, and not until she got her ability was it proven that she was white. One night, Someone comes a long and tells her exactly what kind of different she is. And what kind of danger she is in. She unlocks her true past, and is determined to make a change. --- "You control 83% of the universe, Mar! Use it!" "what the hell does that even mean?!"

"Mitchell, it has come to my attention that you have sinned," my father said. Loving her was a sin; of that, I am fully aware. But a sinner I was. Her green eyes were without doubt the most captivating aspect of her appearance, although they showed no signs of life or emotions; they were still green, but not the green from five minutes ago. "Yes," I confessed. "I have fallen in love with someone of the opposite sex." * * * In a picturesque homosexual society, sixteen year old Mitchell Bennett battles against his bizarre emotions in fear that his limerence has gone over the top. It was a sin to lust after the opposite sex. As he is thrown into a whole new perspective of chaos, Mitchell endures himself for serious consequences. He was deemed an iconoclast.
