Isabel Silva, a 60 year-old former ballerina, sits at her desk in Porto, surrounded by old photographs, cards and souvenirs from the war. She decides to write her biography, not only to preserve her history, but also to confront the ghosts of the past that still haunt her.
As she writes, Isabel remembers her youth in Paris, where she arrived full of dreams and ambitions. The war transformed her life in ways she could never have imagined. She describes how she joined the Resistance, using her position as a dancer to help sabotage the Nazis and save lives. However, the heart of her story is her forbidden romance with Heinrich von Reinhardt, the German general who made her question everything she believed in.
