Magic takes as much as it gives, and no one knows that as well as Enforcements Officer Alger. Alger grew up in the city of Nyx back when it was a small rural town filled with hedgewitches and everyday enchantments. But everything changed when the city was flooded with newcomers and the rain dried up. Now, surrounded by years of drought and a class-conflict driven Art War, Alger is part of the offices that keep magic at bay. She would have been happy to stay that way, but a mysterious promotion and a string of deaths pull her headfirst into her city's history-- as well as her own.
