But everything changes when she meets Señor Álvaro de Herrera, a reserved yet idealistic Spanish officer newly stationed in the region. What begins as mutual curiosity deepens into a dangerous, passionate affair, one that threatens not only their reputations but also Josefina's loyalty to her people, and Álvaro's standing in the colonial order.
