Way into the distant future, a third and fourth world war have occurred. At the end of the fourth world war, the North American countries banded together to form the new nation of Illéa, named after the founder, Gregory Illea. The new nation was divided into 35 new provinces, and the new capital became Angeles, formerly Los Angeles, California. Illéa became a monarchy, with Gregory Illéa being the first king. As the crown is about to be passed onto the tenth ruler of Illéa, Jacob Schreave, it has been decided that a Selection will take place. One girl will be selected from each province to compete for Jacob's heart (much like the Bachelor). When Isabella Tanner discovers that her dream of becoming a real princess could come true, she knows she has to enter. Will she be the one to claim Jacob's heart?
