At least it's more lively now. However, the changes happening to Cyril might be more unfathomable than what's visible on the surface. And in the Empire, a city where magic reigns supreme and demons are no longer the threat they once were, the unexplainable will not be tolerated.

When Iris was six years old, she stopped speaking. For two years, she lived in silence-until she found Jude in an abandoned treehouse deep in the forest. He was the first person who never asked her to explain herself, the first person who understood the strange way she saw the world. Years later, Jude is still there. He climbs through her window when her light is on. He waits for her in the woods. He knows every version of her that nobody else ever tried to understand. Except no one else can see him. Her family says he isn't real. Her psychiatrist says he's a part of her mind. And after hearing it for years, Iris begins to wonder if they might be right. Because what happens when the person who makes you feel the most real is the one everyone else calls imaginary? Some people see faces in the clouds. Iris saw a boy in the forest.

A short story I originally wrote for my English class but I liked the idea enough to adapt it into a better worded short story. A young woman recollects the memory of her closest friend who she never believed to exist until one amazing night were everything she ever knew changed.
