Hiro came to Japan with thirty days ahead of him. For him, Japan was supposed to be a journey. A chance to explore, to experience something new, and perhaps to find something he had been searching for without fully understanding what it was. Maria had already spent years in Japan. But the Japan she knew was far from the one tourists photographed. While Hiro discovered crowded streets, beautiful temples, quiet rivers, and the excitement of being somewhere new, Maria knew the early morning trains, long shifts, small rooms, difficult decisions, and the loneliness that could exist even in a city filled with millions of people. They came from the same country, but they arrived in Japan carrying completely different stories.
