She smells like mitti after rain and keeps her dreams folded in steel lunchboxes. He walks like poetry, never raises his voice, and writes letters he never sends. She calls him out on his privilege. He ties her broken sandal strap without saying a word. Their love isn't loud. It blooms quietly - like jasmine in the dark. In chai-scented afternoons. In paper cuts and poetry edits. In stolen glances by lamp-lit corridors. And in a moment under a rain-soaked archway, when he finally says: > "You are everything I never thought I deserved - but always wrote about anyway." Its successor who is to be at its helm should be endowed with such handling qualities. Ranveer Singh, the hero of The Successor, is imbued with all such qualities. He alongwith the other characters on his side combats anti-social elements and terror-mongers of in his country and undergoes harrowing experiences. But everywhere he remains self-determined and persevering. At last, he overcomes all his antagonists and succeeds in maintaining peace and order in the country. He even thwarts a foreign ruler's evil design of destabilizing and disintegrating his country. Thus, he proves himself a true successor to his country and as a reward he is anointed her king eventually. Arya Nagar in the novel may be taken as any ideal country of the world where the afore- mentioned ills come into existence due to the alluring entrapments and enticements offered by a malicious foreign ruler to serve his pernicious purpose. The novel tries also to cast some light on why such ills come into being and how they can be avoided. The rest is all clear. The learned reader may delve deep and draw the 'unseen' meaning conveyed in the incidents and characters of the novel.

The only creature that fits in the family is Raquesh Albert Mancini, a Golden Langur with a penchant for literature and high art. But things go apeshit when the Langur's dark past comes around to haunt the family. Dawgpur is a documentation of the life and times of the Dawgpurians, an enquiry into the twisted, absurd and somewhat comical nature of our own being.
