Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop recently praised Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and also shared his amazement at how can Bumrah generates so much pace from such a short run-up. Bishop added that while growing up he believed that all fast bowlers need to have long run-ups to generate speed but Bumrah proved it wrong. "I grew up on the history of the game and coming through, I had this whole concept of a fast bowler as someone with a long flowing run; someone like Wes Hall, Sir Richard Hadlee, DennissLillee, the Marshalls, the Holdings, so on and so forth. And Jasprit is exactly the opposite: it is a stuttering, short run," Bishop told Cricbuzz. He further added, "Until today, I'm amazed as to where the pace comes from. And he has got a serious skill set. The way he swung the ball in the Caribbean, for example, and the way he can up his pace and still apply control to it. And then when I hear him speak about the game and break the game down, there I see a generational talent. Once he can stay fit, he is an entire package." Ian Bishop also shared that the current pool of pace bowlers is the best that India has ever produced and he also compared them to the earlier West Indies bowling attacks. He also praised the former generations of Zaheer Khan, RP Singh and a few who came after Javagal Srinath, who followed Kapil Dev, the former India captain. He again added that he felt there was a deliberate attempt by India to recognise that 'batsmen were good, but to win in overseas, bowlers are needed too. And for that, we have to get players from the MRF Pace Foundation and the NCA and also try to prepare pitches to encourage the fast bowlers as well. The history of the Danish West Indies, spanning from Columbus's encounter in 1493 to the formal transfer to the United States in 1917, is a tale of resilience, transformation, and cultural evolution. Initially named "Las Virgenes" by Columbus, the islands witnessed the establishment of Danish colonies in 1672, centered on the lucrative sugar trade and fueled by the inhumane transatlantic slave trade. Emancipation in 1848 marked a progressive shift, leading to the importation of labor from diverse corners of the globe. The United States, eyeing strategic control, initiated acquisition attempts from 1867. The historical backdrop intensified during World War I, with the sinking of the Lusitania triggering U.S. concerns about German control of the islands. This fear catalyzed negotiations, resulting in the islands' formal transfer in 1917, marking the only U.S. territory purchased from another imperial power.
