"I'm back," he says, an unnatural smirk decorating his face. He never looked at me in that way, his gaze traveling up and down my figure as if I was even remotely desirable. He licks his lips and looks into my eyes. "Did you miss me?"
My eyes harden. "I don't know who you are anymore." I hope my words cut deep, but they don't. He chuckles and then whispers, "But, I still know who you are. And this whole facade of happiness you put up... I see right through it. So, let's not play games with each other. I've missed you, Cora. And I definitely know, given our history, that you've missed me."

Cora was the ship, threatening to sail off into the infinite tumultuous waters of her mind, and Elijah was her anchor. When he abandoned her, she was left to her own devices, and all too many times almost sank.
Right when she convinced herself she didn't need him, he came back into her life, with unexpected secrets, and as a completely altered person.
She wants nothing to do with him, him only bringing back memories she's fought to forget. But he wants back in her life, and will fight to become more than just an anchor.
