She hugged her waist, staring at the ground. The wind blowed her long brown hair in different directions, messing it up. She was sitting on the swingset at the old park, next to her boyfriend. She had called to meet him there. There was silence for at least ten minutes, before she finally spoke. "I'm infertile." Her voice held an almost hollow tone, as tears prickled at her bright green eyes, not for the first time. "Ill never be a mother...." Hot tears streamed down her face as the words left her mouth. These are four vignettes written in response to Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale.
