2020 has been a year filled with chaos and anxiety. Starting in March, we found ourselves in isolation, and after just a couple of weeks being stuck inside the house with just our family, we all started to feel alone and go a little crazy. But, imagine if you were stuck in isolation for years, and instead of being in a house you are stuck in a cold dark room the size of a small bathroom, with no one to talk to. This is exactly what hundreds of prisoners have to go through in solitary confinement and after years of this it takes a toll on their mental health. That is why my 2020 senior project is solitary confinement and the effects it has on mental health. I selected this topic because after reading all of these stories of prisoners getting on their hands and knees to watch feet go by, so they felt less alone, I started to tear up. Nobody should have to go through the torture they go through, our prisons are supposed to help reform people and make them better not make them sicker
