When Cornelia Veenstra, Elle as she's usually called, had her powers awakened at sixteen, she wasn't very excited about it. Most people get their awakening around the age of twelve, and without awakening, you can't become an Adventurer.
Which is fine by Elle. She never wanted to become an adventurer anyway. She's happy in their small town, helping her parents in their garden, sneaking out sketching flowers andpreparing to become a teacher. However, when she has her powers awakened after helping a fairy, she goes to the town elder and asks for help.
In his excitement, he hears that she has awakened a hero's journey and immediately convinces her parents that she must become a legendary hero. So, together with his son, Gijsbert, whom Elle doesn't remember as very pleasant, she has to travel to find a retired hero to mentor her in becoming a worthy hero. Despite her reluctance to become a hero, she goes anyway. What else is she supposed to do? This is her journey, right?
