Anyone would describe a Nara as a lazy genius who refuses to put any more effort than necessary. The same applies to Shikamaru Nara, the genius son of clan head Shikaku Nara, however, he seems to be more of a genius than meets the eye. He's on the run with the six other remaining people with some precious things: the knowledge of all the shinobi villages (sealed into Orochimaru) and a seal that might give them a chance for a better future. The seal will take them to the past, but they might not be able to handle the unfortunate consequences.....

This story takes place in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations timeline some time before Kawaki is introduced. It's an average day in Konohagakure.... The streets are peaceful, the sky is clear, the sun is bright, and Naruto is Hokage. Everything is fine until he finds out that Sasuke visits his brother's grave everytime he comes home. Naruto takes note of the sadness and regret Sasuke holds. After that discovery, he becomes more observant of the people around him and notices how sad they can be. Sure the citizens and shinobi have moved on and are grateful for the sacrifice of their fallen loved ones, but there is still that lingering pain in their hearts. Naruto decides that it is his job to allow the people to say their proper goodbyes to deceased loved ones... It doesn't go exactly as planned, but it's all okay-dattebayo! "But why grandma? I wanted to go out and do more C-ranked missions." The blonde asked, seemingly frustrated "Firstly, don't call me that, secondly you're all risks at the moment. Sasuke is hell bent on revenge to the point where even sleeping and eating seem pointless. Sakura is overly obsessed and will be a hindrance to missions and possibly lives. Kakashi has picked up the habits of a dead teammate and spends most of his days staring at a rock. Lastly you, Naruto. You're hiding something from me. It's not possible to be that happy all the time, especially with what you've been through." She retorted before anyone could interrupt. Team 7 began staring at each other as if trying to figure out what the current Hokage was talking about. "Now scram before I send ANBU after you." That was all they needed to leave and head to the ANBU headquarters.
