A caterpillar is ugly until it turns into a beautiful butterfly. A pressure cooker has a valve to regulate the pressure. These two facts relate to this novel. A newborn baby girl is put in an institution due to a birth defect. However, as she matures she turns into a beautiful young woman. When she learns about her family she seeks revenge. First, to those who took advantage of her during her formative years, and finally to family members. Unlike a pressure cooker...this beautiful young woman has no valve, and she has learned just how mesmerizing her beauty can be. ____________ Author's note - there have been many comments about the cover, so I will share the intent. These are twin embryos, but if you look closely, you will see the devil ears. Don't be like Scott, and get too close to a devil in disguise.

Suicide. It was a word that held so much power over any individual. A word that tore people apart and bared them for all to see. A word meaning death and heartache. But a word Kaedin Sloane was all too familiar with. After his last attempt, Kaedin's family finally had enough. A psychiatric hospital was a last ditch effort to get Kaedin better. He knew it was a waste of time like everything else his father and step mother tried but he went along with it anyway as he always did. What Kaedin didn't expect to find was an understanding he thought he could never have with another person. Kaedin was never a talker, hated people knowing even the smallest detail about him but with Emery, it was different. Baring his soul for the first time in years, had Kaedin feeling like maybe just maybe life could be worth living. Of course, nothing lasts forever.

When we are born, we do not have a choice whether we are taken to the Institution. But our birthers do. They hand us over to the State because they do not think they have a choice. And once we are here, they raise us to believe that we do not have a choice. They lock us away, shield us from a greater wisdom, ignore the object of free will. We think what they want us to think, fight who they want us to fight, become what they want us to become. They make us believe that freedom is a lie, that liberty is a hoax, that only mindless obedience can engender endless happiness. But they are wrong. I am not their pawn. I refuse to be their hostage. Their will has never been my will, not since the day I delivered the message. Not since the day I walked tediously down an empty corridor, not since the day I heard a knock at the window. My life has forever been the my life since the day I chose to listen. The day I dared to chose. [Hey everyone! Thanks for coming to visit my story! I recently posted the prologue of this story as a short story because I think it's enough to stand on its own. It would really mean a lot to me if you could check that one out, too, and comment as to whether you think I should keep the longer version going. I know where it's headed in terms of plot, but I'm split over whether it's worth continuing. What are your opinions? Anyway, thanks again and happy reading!]
