25-year old Lee still hasn't figured out why they could not form any long-lasting relationships, even friendships for that matter. Aside from family members, which they are obligated to talk to, there is no one else Lee had even come close to calling a friend. Well, maybe except for one. -------- Submitted for ONC 2026 @OpenNovellaContest Using the following prompts : 29. You will meet many people in your life. Many will come and go, but some will leave footprints in your heart. 104. While wandering in the woods, you dismiss the rustling behind you as nothing more than wind through the trees until you turn around and realize it isn't the wind at all. 106. After waking at 3AM to a freezing room and a door you're certain you closed, you find wet footprints and melting snow leading from your bedroom into the hall. Realizing someone or something is inside your home, you follow the trail to uncover the truth. All rights reserved by @J. Lee Kennedy, except for images contained in this book. Jesus was intentional about discipleship. As you consider the basic principles of an intentional discipleship system, make it your own. Intentional discipleship means loving people with purpose, helping them grow in spiritual disciplines, teaching them the Word of God, and leading them into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Nia Carter just ended something she stayed in too long. Now she's moving differently-quieter mornings, softer choices, and a life that finally feels like her own. Love isn't off the table... it's just not being announced. Then there's him. Not loud. Not rushed. Not trying to claim space that isn't his. The kind of connection that doesn't demand attention but slowly earns it. The kind that makes you question what healthy attraction is supposed to feel like. As friendships shift, chemistry simmers, and healing happens in real time, Nia learns that some relationships aren't meant to be posted, rushed, or labeled too soon. Some things are better introduced gently. Soft Launch is a Black slow-burn romance about timing, boundaries, and what happens when love grows quietly.

'"How are you?" Kasey said into his phone. He spun a spoon around in his tomato soup; since she always cooked, he'd planned to make dinner before Olivia got home. "What are you doing?" "Working," Olivia answered. She used her shoulder to hold up her phone as she poured coffee into a cup. "You know this." She poured in the hot milk. Then the sugar... She didn't know how much she had put in, lost in her thoughts. God, Kasey was always so clingy with her. He had to know everything; what she was doing; where she was; who she was with. He acted like her guardian. Sure, it was sweet of him to care that much, but sometimes it irritated her... "I have to hang up now. Another customer walked in." She said, glancing up toward the little jingle when the door opened and shut. She slapped the lid onto the coffee she was working on. Some of the hot coffee spilled onto her hand causing her to mutter out a curse. A smile immediately came on her face as the customer waved to her-she had to keep a nice face in front of these customers. She had to keep this job. Kasey stayed quiet, and Olivia wondered if he'd left the phone sitting somewhere. Just as she was about to hang up, his voice finally came through. "Okay," he said, "Call me later?" "Sure." She said, then quickly hung up to give the previous customer their coffee. She decided not to call him back.
