When the palace announces the kings betrothal contest, Evander doesn't think too much about it. It's vain and uncouth and certainly, no one is dumb enough to believe the king would actually choose a commoner to marry.
His heart is put off of marraige, he isnt interested. He's content. He has his career, his bakery that he worked so hard to open and a peaceful life that he wouldn't trade for anything in the world.
When his family enters his name for the competition, he reluctantly agrees, on the condition that if it doesn't work out, his mother would leave him alone about marriage.
He doesn't expect it to be difficult. When he meets the king, he doesn't expect him to be kind, and warm and easy to talk to. He doesn't expect him to be...normal and suddenly, Evander has his priorities mixed. He loves his bakery and is determined to further his career, but his concerning feelings about King Zarrall are starting to make him think otherwise.
Evander hates royals, and he hates magic, marrying the king means, putting himself directly in the middle everything he hates, but for Zarall? He might be willing to put up with it.
This is a high fantasy novel, featuring a reluctant baker and a sweet golden retriever king. Any similarities to other stories is purely coincidental.
