At the mention of the winged monsters, the girl perked up, sorrow and anger fighting for control over her complexion. "Those things took my brother, sir. You know me well enough to know not to talk about it so loosely." She said sharply, her voice thinning out with every word. Pain was evident in her blue irises. "Carol, for the last time, don't call me 'sir'!" He snapped. The girl stayed silent, making no move to correct herself. He sighed, taking her silence as a cue to continue; he would deal with the 'sir' calling later. "Carol, if people weren't meant to see those, you wouldn't be here right now."
